Abstract
Materials and Methods: The study included patients to whom performance of CEA was planned under regional anesthesia without the installation of an intraluminal shunt. CEA was performed to 72 patients aged 50 to 80 years. After performing the regional block, we started infusion of propofol target concentration using diprifusor TCI system.
Results: During anesthesia, we have allocated five stages, each of which required a level of sedation. The Dependence of BIS index and the degree of sedation RAMSAY from propofol TCI, allows quantitatively assess the degree of sedation and individually select the desired level of sedation. As a result, during cross-clamping of the ICA patients can actively cooperate with the anesthetist for dynamic neurological control.
Summary: The operation CEA under sedation with preserved consciousness allows to use all the advantages of regional anesthesia, creating fairly comfortable environments for patients. Rare cases of respiratory depression, sedation allows the independent external patient`s breathing. That allows dynamic neurological control and to maintain constant verbal contact.
