The Experience of Orthodontic Treatment of Patients with Total Congenital Face Clefts
Abstract
Purpose: Tactics of orthodontic treatment of patients with congenital face clefts with accounting for their age, cleft kind, growth and development of upper and lower jaw.
Materials and Methods: Two groups of patients were segregated: 7 people with total bilateral and 22 people with total unilateral cleft of labrum, alveolar bone, hard and soft palate. Most common secondary deformations with both cleft kinds present were determined.
Results: Analysis of clinical and radiographical examination of viscerocranium confirmed that active growth of facial skeleton occurs during interchangable occlusion period.
Summary: Orthodontic treatment effectiveness was shown to depend on the time of admission and medical activity order. Orthodontic treatment of children with congenital face clefts was most effective in the cases when treatment began at 5-7 years and outpatient observation till 18 years.
